Paint Night in Coquitlam

June 30, 2018

I had a lovely evening with this wonderful church group of women who painted one of my favourite paintings, the Whimsical Moon. This painting leaves so much room for creativity and these ladies took it to task. They blew me away with their talents! This was one very creative group of painters. They took this theme of branches and went with it! Some took the petals and made cherry blossoms and others made vines and others made abstract flowers. It was wonderful to see the range of creativity! The dots can be interpreted in many ways, from petals, flowers or stars, it leaves lots of space for you to explore your own artistic journey.

Here is the original painting:

Disclaimer: It's difficult to capture the real colours on camera. In real life, the branches are dark blue, not black, and the moon is a soft yellow. The pictures for the students' work are also off, the yellow looks much brighter in the pictures then they do in real life. They are actually a softer honey yellow than a submarine yellow, which is pictured below. It still gives you an idea of the beautiful work we do.

Here are some samples of these ladies' work:

Here's a minimalist version. (pictured above)

A traditional rendition of cherry blossoms.

A mix of cherry blossoms and petals.

This particular painting (pictured above) was painted by a 94 year old woman, who had never painted before! I feel so blessed to have been a part of her first painting. She did a great job! A natural..

This is a great stylized version.

This three-tree cherry blossom on an asymetrical composition is SO gorgeous. It's hard to see the beautiful colours that you could see in person. This is definitely a keeper! You can paint this too!

A cute funky version of our Whimsical Moon, lots of variety!

I find this one to be a spectacular version of the painting, I love the contrast of the thick and thin branches and the little cherry blossoms. A beautiful spring painting.

Here's a lovely sample of adding cherry blossoms to the branches rather than dots.

A clean and crisp moon and branches.

This abstract version was such a fun and beautifully painted version. This iphone picture doesn't do it justice! It was a stunner.

And here we are, the wonderful group of ladies painting beautiful Whimsical Moons, petals and cherry blossoms. From abstract to surreal to stylized, there was something for everyone.
